I Hope the Flowers Were Worth It
December 2022
Mariani Gallery, University of Northern Colorado
solo exhibition
In May of 2022, I was working a temp job that involved planting flowers into massive walls. The safety bar on the scaffolding broke, sending me 16-20 feet into concrete and into a summer of trauma and restoration. “I Hope the Flowers Were Worth It” dissects my struggles and triumphs in healing from this significant accident. During this time, I journaled as a way of coping. These journal entries provided the foundation for creating this body of artwork which visually describes my experience. In creating this series, I am contending with my new reality and finding peace in my healing process.
